Four U of I alums named to the BoT

Governor Quinn has named four new members to the BoT, all of whom are U of I alumni.

The new members are:

  1. Former Springfield Mayor Karen Hasara
  2. Timothy Koritz, a staff anesthesiologist at Rockford Memorial Hospital
  3. Pamela Strobel, retired executive vice president and chief administrative office of Exelon
  4. Carlos Tortolero, the president of the National Museum of Mexican Art.

    Not necessarily a bad list, but I think it a shame that David Dorris was not reappointed.

    I think at one point during the Blago admin, the BoT had 4 members w/ out college degrees. Maybe 1 or 2 w/ out college degrees who are captains of industry, sure, but 4 of the members?

    Fifth BoT is:
    Edward L. McMillan, Principal and CEO, McMillan LLC

    The only one I know is Karen Hasara who is a graduate of UIS when it was SSU. She was also a Circuit Clerk when she got her degree in legal studies and then served in the Illinois House before becoming Mayor. She’s a moderate Republican and has always been approachable on any issue. I also understand that the other 4 are all U of I grads.

    I cant remember which 4, but I’m pretty sure the person I learned that stat from wasn’t counting the 3 student trustees! :)

    The Board was made up of the following Trustees before the scandal. 6 of 9 had UI degrees

    Larry Eppley, UIUC undergrad, MA in Accountancy & JD
    Ken Schmidt, UIUC undergrad, UIC MD
    Devon Bruce, UIUC undergrad, JD
    David Dorris, UIUC JD
    Edward McMillan, UIUC undergrad (replaced Bob Sperling in 2008, UI undergrad)
    James Montgomery, UIUC undergrad & JD (replaced Marge Sodemann in 2007, Champaign resident but not a UI grad)
    Niranjan Shah, not a UI grad
    Frances Carroll, not a UI grad
    Bob Vickrey, not a UI grad

    Now 5/9 trustees have UI degrees.

    James Montgomery, UIUC undergrad & JD
