“You can tell a lot about a guy from his shoes”
Today cable news is paying too much attention to what the McCain campaign paid for Sarah Palin’s clothes. This is a story I couldn’t possibly care less about, and while it’s good for the Obama campaign, it’s not as helpful as focusing on the issues. As I speak the Dow is down 515. Palin will stay connected with those she connects with, but by now most at the margin have been lost, with polls showing that 55% of Americans have reached the self-evident truth that Palin isn’t prepared to be President.
As an Illinoisian I take pride in our state’s history of producing leaders who were great speech makers, like Lincoln, Everett Dirksen, and Adlai Stevenson.
I was thinking of Stevenson today when I heard about Palin, and the famous picture of Stevenson with a hole worn into his shoes. In that spirit, take a look at the pictures below:

Commentary on these two pictures is also on the Huffington Post here:

That article also links to the statue of Gov. Stevenson at the Airport in Bloomington:

Joshua,
It’s no secret that I don’t agree with you about Barack. I preface my question with this disclaimer because I do not want it to be taken as an attack that must be immediately defended or retaliated against. I am, in the most neutral, disinterested, bi-partisan, anti-partisan, anarchistic way possible, curious: How is it that Joshua at the Urbanagora, enamore22 at the DailyKos, and Jason Linkins at huffingpost.com all blogged this photo entry within hours of each other? I suppose it’s possible that you and Linkins both read enamore22’s diary and you, unlike Linkins, didn’t feel obligated to tip the hat? Or maybe the Urbanagora readership is much wider than the 97,000 visitors in the previous 2.5 years would indicate, and Linkins and enamore22 both poached you? I’ll repeat: How is it that Joshua at the Urbanagora, enamore22 at the DailyKos, and Jason Linkins at huffingpost.com all blogged this photo entry within hours of each other?
Respectfully submitted,

Justice Kofi,
When I heard about Palin today, I thought about fashion statements in presidential politics, I thought about Obama’s suits, Paul Simon’s bowties, and then the humanizing photo of gov stevenson w/ a hole in his shoe. I didn’t really think about tossing up a quick pust until I saw a Wonkette post with the Obama photo. The Wonkette post made no reference to Stevenson. Since my brief thought was centered more on Stevenson and IL legends, I thought it different enough from the Wonkette post that I didn’t feel the need to h/t. Perhaps I should have. I submit to the court that I fly out of Bloomington IL every time I fly home, including about a week ago. I’ve read 3 books by Adlai Stevenson, 3 about him, and for a few years for Christmas I jokingly gave my girlfriend’s little sister books by Stevenson because she complained about how I drone on about him. As a student of Stevenson, I’ve seen his photo countless times.
I linked the HuffPo story when I saw it, and I never really read DailyKos, as there is too much leftist stupidity there for me to tolerate. I am very liberal, but I’ve found that Kos and MoveOn leftists often undermine the progressive policy goals I value. Kos gets me even more worked up than FoxNews.
This is a fair question, and I don’t mind answering it. You gotta keep us honest.
Kofi, just wondering, would you be interested in having the ability to do a few guest posts and expanding your role beyond the comments?
