  1. In all fairness, that wasn’t really an attack by Fox News as much as a straightforward report on what a whackjob this guy is. I’m as much of a traitor to America as anybody, but Boyle goes too far even for my taste.

  2. On a personal level I like the hell out of Francis Boyle, he’s a radical, sure, but he’s a damn bright one.

I don’t like his reflexive hostility to those who disagree with him, and I think sometimes he shows poor form in the way he attacks political opponents.

I know the law school would like to bounce him from the faculty rolls, but many of the law students I know who have taken his class found him to be a great teacher, and fair in the classroom setting to dissenting views.

My dad and I just had a debate via email about whether IL Law should keep him on or not, I predictably favored academic freedom above all, even if Boyle’s radical views diminish the law school in the eyes of some. That said, he might be a net liability, he upsets some heavy donors, but I wouldn’t sacrifice academic freedom to appease donors, however, I suspect Richard Herman would do so in a moment if he thought he could get away with it.

  3. Josh,

Does your dad think John Yoo should get fired? If not, he should shut up.

  4. Hey, if Boyle can prevent the neo-cons and the Israel lobby from starting another war by personally grandstanding, then I am all in favor of his doing so.

I could give a rat’s ass whether or not Israel decides to attack them or not. The only proven way for a soverign nation to prevent aggression by the US, on the other hand right now, seems to be the possession of nuclear weapons, as Kim Jong-Il has discovered.

I’m all for Francis in this case.

    Tom

  5. Boyle's never been anything more than a leftist grandstander who hates Jews and was so pro-Palestinian that even Amnesty International scrubbed him off its Board of Directors.

Though he was caught on tape stating that Iran & Syria should be given nuclear weapons "for balance," he later denied it and claimed the tapes were fake … even though three separate reporters had him cold.

Just using this douchebag or having him in a group leaves a serious taint, and he's such a pariah now that only Alex Jones & a few whackjobs like that will even give him airtime ordinarily.

A friend of mine who took classes from him said that back when he was a hardcore practicing Catholic he was tolerable, but when he "converted" to atheism he went way off the deep end.

His students used to joke that since there was no god, Boyle was applying for the vacancy.

  6. It seems first name only is the way to go in this particular comment section – except for Anonymous. I wonder if the choice of that name has anything to do with his libelous descriptions of Boyle: “never been anything more than a leftist grandstander who hates Jews” and “this douchebag.” Gosh, it makes me like Boyle even more to read such eloquent stuff.
