U of I alum Bob Novak’s attempted hit and run

The Prince of Darkness tried to take out a jaywalker today, and then started to speed off like he didn’t notice. From the witness description, it would be hard not to notice:

The bicyclist was David Bono, a partner at Harkins Cunningham, who was on his usual bike commute to work at 1700 K St. N.W. when he witnessed the accident. As he traveled east on K Street, crossing 18th, Bono said “a black Corvette convertible with top closed plows into the guy. The guy is sort of splayed into the windshield.” Bono said that the pedestrian, who was crossing the street on a “Walk” signal and was in the crosswalk, rolled off the windshield and that Novak then made a right into the service lane of K Street. “This car is speeding away. What’s going through my mind is, you just can’t hit a pedestrian and drive away,” Bono said.

In a 2001 interview, Bob Novak commented on his loathing of jaywalkers: “He was crossing on the red light. I really hate jaywalkers. I despise them. Since I don’t run the country, all I can do is yell at ‘em. The other option is to run ‘em over, but as a compassionate conservative, I would never do that.”

  1. The Obama shilling was always a little annoying, but obviously this blog is going to be absolutely unbearable between now and November (when I assume the silence will be deafening for weeks following Obamas defeat).

  2. This post is about a prominent U of I Alum who is also a huge prick who hit a guy w/ a car today. It has nothing to do with Obama.

  3. You actually believe McOldy is gonna win?

  4. This post was not specifically about Obama, but it was in the same vein. There was always an extreme liberal slant which was tolerable given the leanings of so many participants, but things have gone completely off the deep end. This place is not about thoughtful discussion any more. It is about political punditry and talking points. It is to blogs as CBS is to television news and the New York Times is to print journalism.

  5. See, I told you Josh, you guys have officially ruined the blog. Kofi, I agree with you 100%; that’s part of the reason I’m not posting as much, I feel like I’m a drop of reason in a sea of outrageousness.

  6. The blog’s “gone liberal” from conservative laziness, not liberal wankery kids. Most of the principal contributors here are conservatives. The liberals seem to number Josh, Brian, Me, Segen, and a few randoms. The conservatives number our beloved BJM, Prescott, Tom (sort of), Kofi, Jay, John Bambenek, etc. I fail to see how it’s unbalanced because of some power play. Y’all just gotta throw some stuff up and stop bitching.

  7. Its true I haven’t posted in a while…mostly because I wanted my next series of pieces to be earnest reviews of the two candidates economic and foreign policy complete agendas. And as soon as Senator Obama settles on an agenda, I will be sure to write those posts.

  8. Please keep it about thoughtful discussion. It’s the only “local” blog to read good discussion. The rest of the blogs around here are just people insulting one another. I don’t post on here, because I don’t feel I can compete with you guys, but it is very, very insightful. PLEASE don’t let go the way of other blogs!

  9. Ryan,

    You’re stupid, shut up.

  10. Brian,

    Funny.

  11. Where ya from Ryan, tell us a little about yourself?

A bit of background, most of us went to the U of I together a few years back. Several of our bloggers are former Daily Illini columnists, and Tom was an instructor. Others are law school buddies of Billy, who is going to be a 3L at the U of I college of law. Still others are random friends of ours. Our contributors range in age from Anna who is 16 to Tom who is really really old :)

My hope is this blog will have more of a community feel than most blogs, one of its purposes is helping a bunch of friends stay in touch with each other. I think that’s why it has endured and the best hope for its continuation.

I’ve appreciated your recent comments, and if you would like to do a guest post at some point, we would welcome that. Fire me an email at urbanagora at gmail dot com.

  12. Joshua,
It’s a very, very good blog, I really enjoy reading it! The local blog, where I live, is just horrible. It’s basically people insulting each others’ views and really doesn’t have anything intellectually stimulating at all. Check it out and see for your self: http://www.mccopundit.com

I’m familiar with many of you, I used to work at U of I and enjoyed reading your columns in the DI. Although I no longer work there or live in C-U (I’ve moved up the interstate to work at another school), I like to keep up with this blog.

You guys far more versed in politics than I am. I wouldn’t want to a post, I couldn’t compete. I just like to sit back and enjoy, like I said, it’s very good. Besides, Brian says I’m stupid :)

  13. Thanks for your comments on our blog.

I think its worth mentioning, as Tom noted, Novak’s incident may well have been caused by his tumor, and not by race car driving and concomitant hatred of homeless jaywalkers, though both are undeniably elements of Novak’s personality
