Today I thought of one of my favorite songwriters, Warren Zevon. I did a quick YouTube search and found a video of Zevon doing Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner. If you’ve heard of Zevon, you’re probably most familiar with either his hit Lawyers, Guns and Money or Werewolves of London. I like those too, but this has always been my favorite:

I spent an evening listening to this album at my brother’s cabin in the woods when it first came out. We played this song on speakers we had strung from the house. Every time the chorus came around, we shot out AK-47s into the air.
We were kinda drunk, doncha know. Later that night, I had to talk my brother out of shooting my engine block with his new Magnum–he had heard that the bullet would penetrate one.

Wow…do you Americans actually live like this?
I thought it was just in films?
I’m inspired…I may go outside later and shoot my FIAT!
;o)
