Nader now Barr?
Those that express dissatisfaction with the two party system and cheered when Ralph Nader entered the race again might have a new hero in Bob Barr. For those interested in Bob Barr, his information is here. Long story short, he is a Christian libertarian who has criticized Bush for the war and Patriot Act and also went after Clinton back in the day. He has advocated against same sex marriage, state rights, and practioners (is that the right phrase?) of Wicca in the military. He lost his seat in Georgia when his district was split. Now the question becomes, if he runs, does he offset Nader’s effect on the Democratic ticket?
While it is possible that Barr might seek Ron Paul’s endorsement, I personally find it unlikely that he will gain the active public support of the Paulettes.

Imagine if they were storming the Adalberto United Methodist Church.

Kofi,
Are you serious? There are reports of teenage girls being abused, but we shouldn’t go in because it’s religious?

In this case the government has essentially learned of a potential felony and wants access to a structure to investigate further. In the UMC case, the government knew there was a felon inside the structure. The felon and her harborers explicitly admitted.
Let’s not get caught up in sensationalism, Brian. No one here is going to argue that child abuse isn’t one of the most disturbing and disgusting crimes conceivable. The distinction I’m pointing out is that here the government is mounting an armed invasion of a religious structure on the chance that potential felon may be within, whereas in Chicago a known felon was allowed to relax for a year.

Bob Barr will make a fine Libertarian Party Presidential candidate, perhaps the best ever, even eclipsing Ed Clark’s high water mark of nearly 1 million votes (1.1%) in 1980.
Problem is the Party is in the grips of leftwing Anti-War Libertarians (many outright Anarchists), thes days. Most of the Pro-Defense wing has left for the GOP into the Republican Liberty Caucus, Club for Growth, ect…
Barr will get a substantial vote among just the hardcore Libertarian set - base of about 500,000.
But if he hopes to increase that into the millions, he’ll need to walk a fine line on foreign policy, careful not to run away Pro-Defense libertarians who might be inclined to vote for him.
Just today we learn of yet another report about to be released showing how the Surge in Iraq has been a stunning success since September.
If Barr takes the Ron Paul non-interventionist/pacifist line and claims that the War is a “failure” he’ll end up looking foolish and run off a great many potential libertarian Republican supporters.

If he had the good sense to realize that empire building is not in our best interest, this libertarian might forgive him for believing that the government should regulate marriage of any kind.
He’s a joke, as far as I’m concerned. He has all of the deficits of the Republican party and lacks the true libertarian virtue of being willing to leave other people the hell alone.
Eric D, who the hell gave you the right to speak for libertarians, anyway? You’ve got no more business speaking for the party in general than I do, or was there suddenly a libertarian litmus test published somewhere that the Illuminati didn’t tell me about?
Surge my ass.
