This is an open forum. Jay, several of us enjoyed looking at the U of I trivia, I even emailed a bunch of student leaders about bringing back the hobo parade. I’m glad Segen posted this.
I do think she pwn3d you though in you her response…so…here it comes:
Perhaps you should think before you just spew crap out. I didn’t put anything about Star Trek. I put up a memorial post to Sir Arthur C. Clarke, one of the most intelligent and thought-provoking authors in history. He was around before there was a science fiction genre for the most part; he also was the man who invented the satellite…an invention that our entire modern civilization hinges upon.
Saying something like “I don’t have a myspace” doesn’t really mean anything since they have million of users and there are references made to their site ad naseum in the media. Just in case you have in fact been living in a time warp cocoon, I’ll help you out. Myspace is a crappy excuse for a personal webpage for millions of people. It’s a more pathetic version of facebook, if you will. Anyway, people post up stupid pictures and random songs that “represent” them and say things like “oh, woe is me!”
My point was to simply say that instead of regular content, the blog appears to be plagued with random pictures of crap that doesn’t mean much of anything to most people. I’m sorry, but I don’t think people around the world give a rat’s ass what Brian made for dinner. I also don’t think a picture of a bunch of yahoos swimming in some old black & white picture is a big event either.
Augur,
Stop defending anyone with XX chromosomes for no reason other than the fact that you possess a penis. Every time someone has a bowel movement we don’t have to make a post about it.
Also, the post about the trivia has nothing to do with me personally.
I did not cook this trivia up with sugar-snap peas and carefully season some tofu, like the other post you mentioned.
The trivia has nothing to do with the way I “feel”, which is how you described a MySpace page.
I honestly do not see how you think this is MySpace-ish, or crap. You posted a link about an elephant in a bubble…how is that any more relevant to the blog than my Trivia post?
Lastly, regarding the Star Trek thing…How the hell was I supposed to know that Sir Arthur Clark was a thought-provoking author from your original post? The photos were just linked to photos….with no explanation of the man until we get to the comments section of *my* post.
If you can see the faults in your argument, I would like you to apologize for calling my post “spewing crap out”.
That’s what a real XY would do.

I think JB was just making the point that the post would have been more worthwhile and interesting had it been followed by a couple paragraphs. Some information about the building, when it was used for what functions and why those functions changed, some history, etc.

We both made the same mistake: we didn’t click each other’s links.
I did not see the link to Sir Arthur, which is why I thought you just posted photos.
Presumably, you also did not click my link to the multiple trivia questions page, and instead just thought I posted a photo.
Let’s both try to click each other’s links from now on.

Ok I’m sorry. It was a good faith effort, Segen. And honestly, I had never known there had been a pool in the basement of the building. I learned something new and really that’s all we should ask of any single post.

I, for one, think my food is of great interest, and intend to keep posting pictures of it regularly. And if I get any more complaints, it won’t just be food I cook either, it’ll be random snacks and cups of coffee. Don’t push me, I’ll do it.
I saw there was a link, it was pretty obvious, just like on my post. Well, my posts about random crap are actually news articles that have a certain “how do you say?” to them. There are often multiple things that wet the tastes of our various readership. I didn’t have an entire post about one pointless thing, I have a post about a plethora of quirky things…big difference.
Trivia questions about UIUC doesn’t fit that bill in my opinion. But guess what, we’re all entitled to our opinion.

I don’t meant for this to be like “My Space” (I’ve actually never used My Space so I don’t really know what you’re talking about).
I thought it was relevant because this blog has roots in the University of Illinois campus and the Champaign-Urbana area.
BTW: Weren’t you the one who posted up pictures of star trek or something? How is this much different?
