Pat Buchanan Gets It Right

"A Giuliani presidency would represent the return and final triumph of the Republicanism that conservatives went into politics to purge from power. A Giuliani presidency would represent repudiation by the party of the moral, social and cultural content that, with anti-communism, once separated it from liberal Democrats and defined it as an institution.

Rudy offers the right the ultimate Faustian bargain: retention of power at the price of one's soul."

My prediction for New Hampshire: Romney over Rudy by 10 points, Ron Paul in third place (causing everyone in the party to freak out) followed by McCain. Fred in fifth, formally ending his candidacy.

Right now in NH, 40% of the independents say that they don't know whether or not they're going to vote in the Republican or Democratic primaries.

The Independents don't have to register for one party or another until the day before the election. They currently make up 45% of the New Hampshire electorate.

This means that there's currently 18% of the NH votes up for grabs by either party. Paul supporters are fucking fanatics. I am not sure I've seen this level of support for a candidate since the people who backed McCarthy in 1968.

In the New Hampshire primary in '68 using a similar platform to Paul's McCarthy got 42% of the popular vote among Democrats to Johnson's 49%.

This could be fun. To a certain extent, I feel like Rhett Butler going off to join the Confederate Army after the fall of Atlanta....

I've always been fond of what other people consider Lost Causes.

"Any coward can fight a battle when he's sure of winning; but give me that man who has the pluck to fight when he's sure of losing. That's my way, sir; and there are many victories worse than a defeat."
