Why We’ve Lost

An active duty Lt. Colonel with two tours in Iraq explains to the country and the general staff why we have lost in Iraq.
Hopefully, telling the truth in this article will not result in the end of his career. Courage is a rare commodity.

Great article Tom. Not the first of its kind that I’ve seen, but very well written. Insurgencies can best be fought by having boots on the ground. All the billion dollar shiny fighter jets ain’t gonna stop a guy with a Kalishnakov. Then again the looming showdown with China may call for more conventional tactics. Ah geopolitics and warfare. Fun shit.

Actually I remember in my freshman year of undergrad writing a paper saying that for a country of 26 million people we’d need something in the neighborhood of 1.3 million boots on the ground to have perfect security on a 20:1 citizen:police ratio. That’s perfect security, so go down and having 1/10 of that number is just plain stupid.

What do you guys think of books like the one coming out by George Tenet–are they telling the truth or just covering their butts?
