  1. If you have not done so already, I would highly recommend reading the collection of his letters.

    He was a modest, hard-working (but ultimatly ineffectual) farmer who changed the history of the English-speaking world.

    A truly remarkable man. I rank him with Eisenhower as an example of how being a great general does not preclude one being a great President.

  2. Re-read the previous post–need to clarify. His ineffectuality was at farming, not everything else.
