Lally
Lally is a junior in political science and philosophy at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She was born in Moscow, Russia in 1986 and has an affinity for RSS feeds and underground hip hop.
She was a columnist at the Daily Illini for the Fall ‘06 and Spring ‘07 semesters (you can read her columns linked at her blog Lally Andreevna and at the Daily Illini web site), a position she gave up sadly but willingly to pursue her position as a Charles P. Wolff intern at the Institute of Government and Public Affairs (a position which Jon Monteith held not but two years back!).
Lally is by all accounts a liberal, and though she is dubbed “Lally ‘Green’ Gartel” on the links page of this blog, she is in fact and as of today simply progressive. She’s been in a couple of debates on campus, debating against the likes of conservatives Leo Buchignani and Jake Vial about health care, social security, and the national budget.
She believes in the power of philosophy and correct grammar.
Lally is a lover of opera (Carmen by Bizet and La Traviata by Verdi), books (John Fowles, Vonnegut, Zizek, Heller), independent and classical music (Aesop Rock, Chopin, The Mountain Goats), film (Elizabeth, Mission Impossible, Shine), celebrity gossip web sites (TheSuperficial.com), and as of late vintage maps and magazines.
Hoping to attend law and/or graduate school following the attainment of her Bachelor’s degree, Lally works tirelessly not to think about anything remotely practical.
